Dare to Defy: Why I’m Embracing the Anti-Branding Era
For the longest time, I thought I had to look “polished” to be taken seriously. You know, the swanky graphics, neat fonts, brand colours that whisper “professional” rather than scream “personality.” But lately, I’ve realised that the best version of Dandy & Rebel, and me, is a little messy. A little loud. A little leopard print meets neon daydream.
At some point, I started to believe that branding meant everything had to be perfect, like every post was made by a design agency. But that’s not me. I make costumes and I enjoy working with texture, pattern, and a bit......a lot of unpredictability. The polished look started to feel fake, like I was masking.
So, I’m pulling it back, scratching off the varnish. Letting the raw edges show. The truth is, I don’t want to fit into the standard “small business” box; I want to stand out like a bolt of pink lightning in a rack of beige.
You’ll see more leopard print creeping in (because let’s be honest, leopard is basically a neutral), and splashes of neon that make me grin. You’ll see bold type, imperfect graphics, and the occasional playful clash. This is my visual rebellion, a love letter to every creative who’s ever felt boxed in by “brand strategy.”
Dandy & Rebel was never supposed to be perfect. It’s meant to be honest. It reflects the chaotic mix of ideas and styles I have, and that comes through in my work.
So if you see a post that looks a bit different, rougher around the edges, more “me”, that’s on purpose. This is my anti-branding era. My reminder that authenticity doesn’t need airbrushing, and neither does my image (fuck your beauty standards!).
