Year One - Costume Realisation

The Young Victoria

For our first construction module, we recreated a costume based on The Young Victoria (2009). We used Sandy Powell’s designs as a reference for a stage version of the story. I consulted early 19th-century fashion and portraits of Queen Victoria to ensure the silhouette and details were accurate. I drafted the pattern from the model’s measurements and adjusted it to match the period. The finished costume included a bum roll, petticoat, skirt, and a boned bodice. This project combined construction techniques and historical research.
