Signature Toddler Wear: My Love Affair with Dungarees (and Why You Might Want a Pair Too)
Ooh, hello again!
Let’s talk about one of my favorite comfort pieces. The kind of garment that says, “I’m here, I’m queer, and I probably have snacks.” Yes, I mean dungarees.
Dungarees have become one of my signature looks. There are pictures of me wearing short ones as a teen, I have ones I made myself, some vintage, some patched up from costume fittings, and a few that really say, “eccentric pibling who brings their own snack bag.” I call them my signature toddler wear, because honestly, I like clothes that let me make art, crawl under a table, or take a nap whenever I want. That’s why they stand out among comfort pieces.
So why do dungarees continue to call to me, you ask?
Because they feel freeing. They don’t cling where you don’t want them to. They don’t make assumptions about your shape, your gender, or your style. They just exist. That’s the dream when you’re neurodivergent and still figuring out what feels right to wear each day.
Also… they have pockets. Actual usable ones. Enough said.
Making My Own (and Soon Yours Too!)
One of my favorite things to do is sew dungarees that truly fit, whether they're for myself or for someone else. Store-bought pairs never vibe with my proportions, so making my own has changed the game.
Here’s the exciting part. Soon I’ll be offering limited runs of handmade Dandy & Rebel dungarees for you to wear, live in, and maybe cause a little chaos. Each pair will be one-of-a-kind with customizable details. They’re designed to have a relaxed, non-gendered fit that accommodates different body shapes. Stay tuned for ordering details and learn how to request your favorite features.
I want them to feel like armour and play clothes all at once—whether you’re striding through town or getting lost in a cozy pile of fabric.
Style, but Make It Silly
Someone once told me, “You look like you’re about to take over a magical forest and declare it a queer utopia.” I mean, I’ve been told that I look feral too, but that works! That’s the kind of energy I want in every pair I make.
They aren’t just clothes, they’re joy, comfort, and a rebellious spark you can take to the supermarket.
Tell me what your dream dungarees look like, frilly straps, velvet bibs, secret embroidery, whatever you imagine! Please comment below or message me to bring your custom pair to life. I’m ready, swatches in hand!
Thanks for reading, you absolute treasure.
Love,
