We Are Still Here: Stitching Solidarity in the Face of Injustice
Hello, my lovely Rebels. So I know the topic might be a heavy one, but I wanted to take a minute to talk about recent events.
If you’ve been feeling unsettled lately, you’re not alone. The UK Supreme Court’s recent ruling, which defines “woman” in the Equality Act as only biological sex, has caused a lot of pain and fear in our community. From what I understand (and please correct me if I’m wrong), this means trans women are left out of some legal protections, even if they have Gender Recognition Certificates.
As someone who is gender non-conforming (genderfloral, if you like), and who puts my heart into every stitch at Dandy & Rebel, this ruling feels like a massive step backwards. It reminds me that our fight for inclusivity and recognition is not finished.
Dandy & Rebel stands with our trans and non-binary siblings. Needlewitch Studio is, and always will be, a safe place for every identity. We make clothes to celebrate every kind of gender expression, and we refuse any definition that tries to erase or ignore the lives of trans people.
Thousands have taken to the streets across the UK to protest this ruling and demand justice. These protests show just how strong and united our community is - but they also remind us to look after ourselves and each other during these tough times, there can be strength in the softness too <3
To all my fellow needlewitches, studio goblins, and velvet gremlins: please take care. Rest when you need to. Reach out if you’re struggling. You are valid, and your presence is powerful.
With solidarity and stitches, I stand with you.
Amber (they/them)
Velvet Gremlin. Studio Goblin. Proud Needlewitch.
