Year One - Dye & Breakdown for Character

Squire Hare

After finishing the body padding module, I moved on to making the costume for our character. I used dyed calico for the whole costume, applying what I learned in our workshops to mix dyes and match the colours in the illustration. I consulted historical clothing books, old performances, and fashion photographs from the period to research the appropriate garments. Using this research, I made scaled-up patterns for Squire Hare’s waistcoat, breeches, and tailcoat.

This was my first time working on tailoring. I paid close attention to structure, fit, and movement so the costume would be accurate for the period and practical to wear. I wanted to ensure it matched the design and worked well for the character.
