Year Two - Historical Costume for Screen
Gentleman Jack
This module really deepened my interest in tailoring. I made a full costume from the inside out, inspired by Anne Lister’s wedding suit from Gentleman Jack. I was able to study the original pieces at Cosprop in London with Dan Ashworth, the tailor, who shared a wealth of practical advice and insight into how the suits were made. After that, I worked on my own version, ensuring every part was cut, fitted, and finished to a professional standard. Matching the pattern on the waistcoat pockets was a breakthrough for me and helped me trust my own judgment. This project was about turning research into something real, with careful attention to fit, finish, and how the costume would actually be worn.
